Is there a free AI red flag checker for relationships?
Yes, and most tools in this category have a free tier. But "free" here means at least three different things, and the costs are not comparable. Metered free (a few messages a day, pay past that) costs you patience. Genuinely free, funded by ads or data, costs you whatever you upload. Free trial that auto-renews costs you the month you forgot to cancel.
The middle one deserves the most scrutiny, because what you're uploading is private conversation. A product that charges you nothing and shows no ads is still getting revenue from somewhere. That's not an accusation — it's a question you're entitled to have answered, and the answer is usually in the privacy policy rather than the marketing page.
One more thing to settle first: whether a free tier is enough depends entirely on what you want it for. If you're trying to resolve something specific — what that message meant, whether these three incidents add up — a dozen messages will take you through it end to end. If what you want is someone to talk to over weeks, no free tier covers that, and the thing to compare is price, not free-ness.
Four things to check — more carefully when it's free
How does it make money?
Find the data section of the privacy policy: training use, third-party sharing, how long images are kept. Specific wording is a good sign. A single line about how much they value your privacy is not a policy.
What is the free tier metered on?
Per day, per conversation, or per word — these behave very differently. A daily allowance lets you work one situation through; a per-conversation cap tends to run out mid-thought. Check before you start rather than halfway in.
Does it want a card up front?
A free trial that requires payment details is really "you pay unless you cancel." An actual free tier doesn't need a card. This one question filters out a lot.
Does it need an app, and what permissions?
Anything that runs in a browser doesn't need installing. If a tool for analyzing conversations asks for your contacts, notifications, or full photo library, the permission list doesn't match the job.
What a free tier won't cover
- Ongoing companionship. Free tiers are designed to let you find out whether the thing fits, not to be used daily.
- Analyzing months of history in bulk. Volume hits the cap by definition — start with the few exchanges that actually matter.
- A conclusion you can use to convince someone else. It organizes what you provide; it isn't forensic verification and it isn't legal advice.
